Pharmacies can be based in a number of countries and market their products to the world, though most operate with a limited range. Businesses are aware that this is an expanding industry, with the potential to be more profitable as the Internet expands. Internet pharmacy sites are upgrading their security features and services, and the convenience factor is hard to dispel. These security improvements make it safe to buy antibiotics online and make other medicinal purchases.
It should be noted that different countries have different laws and protections in place. This means that generic medications available in one country may not be legal to produce in another. This can cause instances when the purchase of a medication from an online pharmacy is perfectly legal, but the product itself should not be allowed into the buyer’s country. India is not known to have any major pharmaceutical companies with their main headquarters in the country.
Mexico
These online drugstore websites cater primarily to the United States customer base. There have been some warnings from the FDA about Mexican online pharmacy sites that claim to be based in Canada. According to statistics from 2008, most of the websites based in the country cater to the U.S. and Canada, but not to the local customer base.
Canada
The Canadian medical industry is known in the U.S. for having much lower prices for prescription medications, and this applies to online drugstore websites. Canadian operations appear very similar to U.S. ones, and a number of American companies have manufacturing facilities or satellite offices in Canada. It is notable that most of the medications sold in Canada are also approved for sale in the U.S. A number of Canadian websites sell prescription medication, with a lesser focus on generics.
The United Kingdom
A significant number of Internet pharmacies are also known to be based in the United Kingdom. The country has very few multinational pharmaceutical corporations, but like Canada, it houses satellite offices and some manufacturing facilities.
There are other countries that have online drugstore operations, as well as countries wherein multinational pharmaceutical companies are based. The pharmacy industry is a global player and the Internet only represents a small percentage of its annual business ventures.
